Role: Senior Vehicle User Interface Developer

Location: San Diego, CA (in-office)

Salary: $160,000-$210,000/ yr base + stock options, 401k matching, relocation assistance within the U.S. (if applicable), and other benefits.

Role Overview:

We're looking for an experienced developer to join our User Interface (UI) team, delivering a class-leading UI that translates human intentions into ASV actions across the globe. We're seeking someone excited to build a deep understanding of our vehicles' capabilities, the vision behind them, and the realities that operators experience when using them. With this understanding and some exceptional technical skills, this person will make valuable contributions as part of a top-tier team.

Role Details:

This is a hands-on, code-heavy role. You'll be expected to write performant, reliable code that supports mission-critical features, frequently with tight time constraints. You'll build a deep technical understanding of our platforms and help translate that into systems that feel intuitive to experienced operators and first-time users alike.

You'll develop and refine interfaces for managing real and simulated vehicles, build code to ingest and visualize large volumes of sensor data, and collaborate closely with roboticists, test engineers, and field operators to ensure what you build works in both theory and practice.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Build and maintain high-performance code in JavaScript/React to command and monitor our fleet
  • Interface with back-end systems and live telemetry feeds to create responsive applications
  • Implement new features for internal or external customers, sometimes at a moment's notice
  • Improve and extend testing, deployment, and monitoring infrastructure
  • Collaborate with teammates across engineering and operations to identify issues and improve system usability

About You:

You love solving real problems with code and care deeply about making products that work reliably. You're fast, adaptable, and comfortable working with complex systems.

You have:

  • 5+ years of object-oriented web software development experience with a focus on browser-based technology (JavaScript, React, CSS, HTML)
  • Proven experience iterating on large-codebase apps for mobile and desktop platforms
  • Experience building deployment pipelines and CI/CD tools
  • A strong command of software engineering principles — including testing, deployment, and performance tuning

Additionally, you are:

  • Curious: you want to understand how systems work from end to end
  • Pragmatic: you're able to balance tight timelines with your desire to create a quality product
  • Detail-oriented: you're great at spotting issues and edge cases, and are motivated to fix them before they become larger problems
  • Hands-on: you're excited about deploying what you write, testing it in the real world, and working with operators to make the product better

In addition, you may have experience with:

  • Real-time data, control systems, or physical robotics platforms
  • Maritime systems or mission control environments
  • Mapping APIs (e.g., Leaflet, Cesium, etc.)
  • Databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, time-series databases)
  • Data visualization or telemetry dashboards

Life at Seasats:

Along with your salary, you'll receive perks including:

  • Stock options
  • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
  • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
  • Four free lunches per week
  • An employee activity fund
  • A pet-friendly office
  • Unlimited/Flex PTO

We'll help you ramp up and will regularly take time to discuss what's working and what's not. We're also big on personal freedoms: if you're on top of your responsibilities and want the afternoon off to surf or spend time with friends and family, go for it! We have flexible hours, accommodating PTO, and a personable, high-achieving work culture. We want someone who's excited to work hard and have fun in this environment.

Our values are listed below; we're happy to explain them more during the interview process.

  • Get Stuff Done
  • Be Kind
  • Fight Entropy
  • Attack with Overwhelming Force
  • Ask More Questions
  • Lines, Not Dots

Hiring Notes:

If you decide to apply, you'll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions. If we decide to move forward with your application, you can expect no more than 2-3 more rounds of virtual interviews before a final in-person interview. If you have to travel to San Diego, we'll reimburse pre-approved travel costs.

Please note that we are currently unable to sponsor employment visas, so candidates must be independently authorized to work in the United States.

We appreciate diverse perspectives and life experiences, so we encourage women, minorities, and people of all backgrounds to apply. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

We look forward to reviewing your application!
