Job Description

The Hourly Test Proctor is a crucial, part-time position responsible for maintaining the integrity, security, and fairness of all administered exams, including academic make-up tests, quizzes, and accommodated exams for students with Academic Accommodations, in compliance with Ferrum College and official testing agency policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Test Proctor will report to the designated supervisor and perform the following duties:

Test Administration and Security

  • Maintain a Secure Environment: Ensure the testing room is quiet, free from unauthorized materials, and monitored throughout the entire testing period.
  • Verify Identity: Check and confirm the identity of all examinees using a valid photo ID (e.g., Ferrum College ID or government-issued ID) before distributing any materials.
  • Distribute and Collect Materials: Accurately distribute and collect all test booklets, answer sheets, scratch paper, and approved materials, meticulously counting them before and after the exam.
  • Enforce Rules: Clearly communicate and strictly enforce all exam rules, regulations, and time limits to all test-takers consistently and fairly.
  • Monitor Students: Actively and consistently observe students to prevent academic dishonesty and unauthorized use of electronic devices or materials.

Logistical and Administrative Support

  • Prepare Testing Station: Set up and troubleshoot computers and any necessary software or materials for both paper and computer-based exams.
  • Handle Accommodations: Administer exams for students with documented accommodations (e.g., extended time, reduced distraction environment) as directed.
  • Document Irregularities: Promptly and accurately record any suspicious behavior, rule violations, or technical issues on a formal incident report and notify the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain Confidentiality: Handle all confidential test materials, student information, and academic records with the highest level of discretion and security.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (College coursework preferred).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on testing center needs, which may include mornings, afternoons, or occasional evenings.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow detailed, strict instructions and procedures without deviation.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent observation skills.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and maintain a professional, impartial demeanor at all times.
  • Basic computer literacy and comfort with general office technology (printers, scanners, email).

Preferred Skills

  • Previous experience as a test proctor, invigilator, or monitor in an academic or professional setting.
  • Experience in a college environment or working with students.
  • Familiarity with procedures for students receiving disability-related testing accommodations.
