The Senior Cost Accountant - Operations is responsible for overseeing all Operations Finance activities across the Americas, including inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), fixed assets, capital expenditures, and operating expenses. This role plays a critical part in the month-end close process, financial reporting, budgeting, and audit support, partnering closely with operations and corporate teams to ensure accurate and timely financial insights that drive business decisions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The Senior Cost Accountant is a key contributor to the manufacturing and operations finance team, with responsibilities including but not limited to:
  • Lead month-end close activities, including preparation and reconciliation of COGS reports.
  • Calculate and manage inventory reserves, ensuring proper valuation and accurate financial reporting.
  • Serve as the capital expenditure lead, overseeing capex tracking, approvals, and reporting.
  • Manage the fixed assets ledger, including roll-forward analysis, additions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Monitor and manage operating expenses, ensuring alignment with budgets and forecasts.
  • Drive the annual budgeting process and periodic reforecasting, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide audit support, ensuring compliance with internal controls, SOX requirements, and external audit requests.
  • Establish and maintain cost accounting guidelines and ensure compliance with global and accounting standards.
  • Support inventory management, including balance sheet reconciliations, write-offs, and excess/obsolete analysis.
  • Track savings projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and capital projects.
  • Prepare financial reports, including ad hoc analyses, to support decision-making.
  • Partner with operations to deliver financial insights, drive process improvements, and provide financial education to the team.

Expected Areas of Competence (i.e. knowledge, skills, and abilities)

  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles, cost accounting, and budgeting processes.
  • Advanced financial analysis and Excel modeling skills.
  • Experience managing large datasets and using financial systems and BI tools (Oracle, Power BI, OneStream).
  • Proficiency in SAP is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels of management.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • High degree of accountability, integrity, and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience supporting internal and external audits and ensuring compliance with SOX.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a willingness to learn new systems and processes.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
