Summary Of Job Classification

Performs duties of a judicial clerk plus daily oversight and direction of newer staff, performs case management for all cases types/situations or for a complex specialized area, independently conducts special projects, can independently provide courtroom and judicial officer support and similar duties requiring related experience and/or specialized knowledge.

This position will support the District Court and will work in-person 8 hours per week during the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday, excluding federal holidays.

Candidates will complete a typing test prior to interview and a typing speed of at least 40 WPM is preferred.

Essential Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform assigned essential functions listed below satisfactorily.   • Provides comprehensive case management, customer service, or judicial officer support for clients, judicial officers, or other judicial staff over the counter, in the courtroom, or via phone and email. Instructs customers on case types and procedures. Shares applicable information for law enforcement, attorneys, correctional officials, and other outside agencies. Serves as a subject matter expert.
  • Conducts in-depth research to resolve complex case-related questions and issues for court staff. Troubleshoots and resolves technical issues. Determines the appropriate course of action for reporting or escalation if necessary.
  • Contributes to cross-functional tasks as assigned and/or provides coverage for any function typically performed by a Judicial Clerk, as needed.
  • In conjunction with a supervisor, monitors and evaluates influx, backload, and priority of work. Takes proactive measures, including redirecting staff, redistributing work, and/or providing support as needed to ensure deadlines and objectives of a unit or division are met.
  • Serves as a primary point of contact for other units, internal departments, trial courts, and external agencies. Responds to inquiries, provides information, and resolves or escalates reported issues.
  • Maintains unit or division calendars, schedules court dates, and sets internal reviews to ensure timely case flow and processing. Contributes to case and docket management by supporting senior staff such as judicial officers, Clerks of Court and Supervisors by providing recommendations or revisions to improve efficiency. Prepares, publishes, and distributes daily court dockets.
  • Develops and implements processes and procedures in collaboration with other teams in response to new legislation and/or changes in local practices. Reviews updates to best business practices and state-approved forms, disseminates information, and conforms to unit practices as required. Creates and maintains unit resources such as manuals, written processes, procedures, cheat sheets, checklists, contact lists, and shared spreadsheets and templates.
  • Mentors employees and leads training initiatives for peers and new staff. Implements and monitors training plans developed by a supervisor or trainer, providing input or feedback as needed. Participates in cross-training to assist courtrooms and dockets across the district.
  • Monitors and maintains the quality of work product. Identifies and assesses training needs and provides technical correction and instruction to the individual employee, division or unit as needed.
  • Collaborates with others to coordinate and facilitate meetings, including collecting agenda items, distributing agendas or other relevant documents, and publishing minutes. Attends and participates in various other meetings, committees, and work groups as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Equivalency:

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Work Related Experience

At least five (5) years of experience as a Judicial Clerk II or Court Judicial Assistant for the Colorado Judicial Department.

OR

At least five (5) years of relevant work experience in a position similar to the Judicial Clerk II position.

Physical Effort Requirements

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally.
