Position Summary
The Forklift Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining forklifts and other material-handling equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. This role involves both preventive maintenance and emergency repairs, with a focus on minimizing equipment downtime and maximizing productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety checks on forklifts and related equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using manuals, schematics, and testing equipment.
Repair or replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, hydraulics, and electrical components.
Maintain accurate records of all service and repair work performed.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety policies, and manufacturer maintenance standards.
Troubleshoot equipment failures promptly.
Order and maintain inventory of parts, supplies, and tools as needed.
Collaborate with supervisors, operators, and other maintenance staff to prioritize and complete work orders.
Keep work areas clean, organized, and in compliance with safety regulations.
Requirements
2+ years of experience in equipment or heavy machinery repair (forklift experience strongly preferred).
Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic reports.
Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Valid driver’s license; forklift certification a plus.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally more with assistance.
Prolonged standing, bending, kneeling, and working in various positions.
Exposure to loud noises, fumes, grease, and moving equipment.
Work Environment
Primarily in a warehouse, manufacturing facility, or outdoor yard setting.
