The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager leads our organization's commitment to a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace. The EHS Manager develops, implements, and oversees all EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations. The EHS Manager is responsible for fostering a proactive safety culture, minimizing operational risks, and driving continuous improvement in EHS performance across the entire facility.

Regulartory Compliance:

  • Develops programs, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines to ensure best practices for the overall safety and health of Virbac employees.
  • Participates in compliance programs including OSHA, EPA, Department Homeland Security, hazardous waste transportation and management, waste water management, air emissions, state, and other federal regulations. Maintains comprehensive knowledge of government Health and Safety regulation to ensure compliance
  • Continuously monitor, interpret, and communicate requirements from federal (OSHA, EPA, DOT), state, and local regulatory bodies.
  • Act as the primary company liaison for all interactions with regulatory agency personnel, including inspections, inquiries, and follow-ups.
  • Manage the application, renewal, and maintenance of all required EHS permits, licenses, and documentation.
  • Prepare and submit all mandatory reports

Safety Program Management:

  • Develop, coordinate and supervise the implementation and maintenance of a comprehensive health and safety program designed to prevent injury and occupational illness.
  • Establish and implement safety training objectives. Conduct or provide for safety/health related training, new hire training, retraining and refresher courses.
  • Ensure that emergency preparedness & evacuation drills are managed accordingly.
  • Ensure employees are following established safety polices and protocols by conducting safety observations.
  • Support proactive safety recognition, assessment, and control processes to identify and control physical hazards through on-site inspections and effective employee training and awareness.
  • Conduct job hazard analysis with new product lines, changes to produce lines etc.
  • Lead the investigation of incidents, determine root cause factors and recommend corrective action to prevent future incidents. Determine process for significant incident/near miss investigations including post communications through safety stand downs, retraining initiatives and improvements to eliminate risk in the future.
  • Provide oversight and analysis for environmental programs: new chemical approvals, air emissions, storm water management, waste disposal, wastewater processing, spill prevention and countermeasures, solid/hazardous waste management, and environmental permits and plans.
  • Oversee the annual process for safety shoes, safety glasses and audiograms.
  • Create and maintain OSHA reporting logs and required postings.

Environmental Management:

  • Oversee the entire hazardous and non-hazardous waste life cycle, from characterization and labeling to storage and final disposal.
  • Compile data, analyze results and generate required reports for EPA, DNR, and MSD.
  • Complete and submit SARA III Tier II and Form R and EIQ air emissions reports and permits on time.
  • Develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development.
  • Approve hazardous waste shipments in accordance with RCRA guidelines.
  • Identify and lead sustainability projects focused on waste reduction, recycling, and resource conservation.

Worker's Compensation:

  • Monitor all incident, injury and accident reports on a weekly basis ensuring that all incidents and accidents are timely reported, investigated in conjunction with Supervisors and documented appropriately in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Partner closely with Human Resources, department supervisors, and the insurance carrier/Third-Party Administrator (TPA) to manage the lifecycle of each claim.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a robust Return-to-Work (RTW) program by identifying and coordinating suitable light-duty or transitional work assignments.
  • Analyze claim data to identify injury trends and high-risk areas, using the information to drive targeted safety improvements.

Risk Management:

  • Analyze, Identify and report to the senior leadership team any risks associated with regulatory, safety or environmental issues or concerns and recommend solutions to reduce known risk.
  • Perform systematic EHS risk assessments on processes, equipment, and tasks to identify and prioritize significant risks.
  • Develop and implement effective risk mitigation and control strategies using the hierarchy of controls.
  • Lead the site's emergency response team, manage the Emergency Action Plan, and conduct effective drills and tabletop exercises.
  • Collaborate with insurance carriers on loss control surveys and implement recommendations to reduce property and casualty risks.
  • Conduct EHS reviews for all new or modified equipment and processes to ensure 'Safety by Design'.

Medical Testing:

  • Partner with HR to determine pre-hire testing requirements.
  • Ensure employees complete the appropriate post-accident testing.
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of the company's occupational health and medical surveillance programs (e.g., hearing conservation, respiratory protection, chemical exposure monitoring).
  • Liaise with third-party medical providers to schedule and manage pre-employment screenings, fit-for-duty evaluations, and periodic medical testing.
  • Administer the comprehensive respiratory protection program, including managing medical clearances and conducting annual fit testing.
  • Maintain all confidential medical records in accordance with OSHA and HIPAA standards.

Requirements:

  • Occupational Safety & Health, Environmental Engineering, or technical discipline
  • 5 -7 years experience​

Skills:

  • Previous experience as a manager.
