POSITION SUMMARY :

The Child Life Specialist is responsible and accountable for planning and implementing therapeutic activities and programs to meet patient's psychosocial and developmental needs and facilitates the adjustment of children and their families to health care experiences. Responsibilities include program development for the assigned clinical area, management of fiscal and human resources, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

Baccalaureate degree in Child Life or closely related field with 1-2 years of experience in child life setting is required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED :

Requires completion of a Child Life Internship under the direct supervision of a certified Child Life Specialist and is eligible for certification.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Considerable knowledge of child development, child psychology and practices of play therapy in a hospital setting.
• Comfort with an array of ages, illnesses and cultures.
• Good knowledge of hospital practices, procedures and medical terminology.
• Possesses the ability to observe and record child behavior and development.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a healthcare team, children and families.
• Ability to prioritize, take initiative, and be self-motivated.
